I spend a lot of time in the hot desert sun, which does a number on my skin, this has led me to be a sucker for all things natural skincare. Give me hydrating creams, serums, and body oil, and I will treat myself to a beauty routine that would make Aphrodite proud. It seems nowadays you can’t open up social media without hearing someone talk about “self-care”, and with good reason. Finding time to take care of yourself is so important for mental health, and emotional wellness. However, it can sometimes seem unattainable in our busy lives, not to mention many beauty products are expensive, especially ones that are free of harsh chemicals, and use natural ingredients. That is why I started to make my own products.
Today on the blog I’m going to share my simple face oil. This light weight oil is so versatile, It can be used for the following-
- Make up remover
- Moisturizer
- Cleanser
- Massage oil
- Perfume (when essential oils are added)
Here is what you will need-
- Small dropper bottle
- Carrier oil
- Vitamin E oil
- Essential oil (optional)
The base for this oil is only two ingredients. I start with a lightweight carrier oil; there are a lot of options, I often use grapeseed oil. You can also use sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, or fractionated coconut oil. Then, I add vitamin E oil. Vitamin E oil has great properties for the skin, it is anti-inflammatory, and can help calm and nourish. I use three parts carrier oil, to one part vitamin E oil. At this point you are good to go! If however, you want to add a little extra magic, you can incorporate essential oils. Some of my favorite oils to include are;
- Lavender- anti-inflammatory, calms the mind (great to use before bed)
- Frankincense- Balances the skin, can aid in lightening dark spots
- Geranium- mood booster, minimizes redness
- Chamomile-Soothing, great for dry skin that is also sensitive
To use the face oil as a cleanser, massage a few drops into you skin, then take a damp cloth, and wipe the oil off your face. If you are using the oil to moisturizer, just let it soak in.
I hope you give my homemade face oil a try! What other natural homemade beauty products would you like to try? Let me know in the comments.
