Shifting into fall

The mornings are getting chillier and the leaves are starting to change. The shortening days signal the shift of seasons but even more so I can smell it in the air. The smell of green grass is replaced by drying leaves, wood smoke, and just a hint of snow. I feel it in my bones too, my body wants to slow down, to bake and light candles and do all the cozy things. Living in a place with seasons makes me feel the natural progression of the year so clearly.

Before fall set in we were able to sneak in one last camping trip. It’s hard to believe only a couple weeks ago we were in shorts and jumping in a lake. But now fall is officially here. I’m looking forward to watching the larches turn golden and the landscape shift into the sepia tones of autumn.
