Starting something new is hard, you throw yourself out there in the hope that it will all work out. I did that about 8 years ago when I started this blog. Back then I was newly married with zero kids and all the time in the world to go on adventures. I used this blog to document my experiences climbing, road tripping, hiking, and exploring new places. As the blog grew so did I and eventually so did our family. I had my first child in 2019 and keeping up with the blog became a little harder. Then in 2020 I became pregnant with our second and after her birth I took a break from the blog. It’s hard to start something new, but it can be even harder to restart something after putting it down for a while. I spent a lot of time thinking about what I could even document on this blog now. Our hikes are shorter, our road trips done with a family car instead of our trusty Tacoma, and I spend a lot more time at home baking and playing in the yard with the girls. However, the truth is I feel more fulfilled than I ever have in my life.
Our little family has gone through some big changes this year. We moved to a small town in Eastern Washington, a move that we have dreamed of for years. Due to that move I had to leave my job and am now happily a stay-at-home mom, or as I like to call it a domestic resource specialist. Eventually I would love to get back to work in the nature resources field, but I truly enjoy being able to spend more time with my children while they are young. The weekday hikes are a nice bonus as well.
I can’t say I know exactly where I plan on taking this blog in the future, but you can be assured that I will continue to post about our adventures. However, there will also be a healthy number of posts on baking, planting gardens, and our life at home.

I love this – and probably because I can relate as we’re about to be a trio instead of a duo and already I am thinking about how our hikes will become shorter (as you mentioned). It’s great to read that you will continue to blog even if you feature more food-focused content, etc. 🙂

Thanks! I found that for the first 2 years it was still pretty easy to do longer hikes because we would just carry my oldest the whole time. Now that we have two the older one is almost 40 lbs and wants to stop to smell all the flowers hikes certainly slow down.

Glad to hear that during the first two years longer hiking might still be possible! And, I love that you’ve got a little who wants to stop and smell every flower — as perhaps frustrating as that might be (I’d be frustrating) it does wonders when it comes to slowing down and remembering to be present. At least that’s what I find with my nephew who is the same way.
