Having family scattered around the country has many drawbacks. We miss out holidays, birthdays, and Sunday dinners that we grew up with. It’s a lot of work to pack up two adults and two little humans to travel. Selfishly, we also would lol love having family close so we could have a date night more than a couple of times a year. All that said there is one big benefit to having family all over the United States, it gives us an excuse to visit places we may otherwise never go. One such place is the high desert of western Colorado. My mother-in-law’s property sits on an acre smack-dab in the middle of ranch land. With a mountainous backdrop and big sky all around, it is the kind of place you could get comfortably lost in. We spent a week exploring the surrounding area, included a sledding trip to Grand Mesa. I think we had the most fun visiting the small towns that dot the landscape. Flying kites at the local County park was also a highlight. It’s hard not seeing family very often but I’m thankful we are able to get together when we can.
