The fun thing about kids is it will take you four hours to get ready for a one-hour adventure. I should stipulate that this includes the time to get them up, fed, dressed, teeth brushed, potty, and loading all the gear in the car. Despite all this planning something will inevitably be left behind and someone will end up too cold, too tired, or too cranky by the end. Despite all this it is always 100% worth it. You and your kids may not remember every day they are in school, or just hanging out around the house, but they will remember that camping trip when it rained the whole time, or the amazing sunset they watched over the lake. Emma still brings up our “epic” hike where she slipped on ice and cut her knee open and was “so brave”! Adventuring with kids can be hard and messy but it’s worth it to make those memories. Not to mention you never want to miss a beautiful day playing outdoors, even if someone cries for the last quarter mile back.
