The Final Harvest

We did not have much of a garden this year. After a late start we managed to get a few tomato plants in the ground as well as a very underperforming squash. The only thing that has grown well has been the herb garden, which I plan on expanding next year. Despite our lackluster effort in the garden the tomato plants produced a decent number of fruits. Unfortunately, the late start has resulted in dozens of unripe tomatoes. With a hard frost in the forecast the time has come to harvest. We will be using a trick my mother taught me in an attempt to ripen the tomatoes, by placing them, not touching, in a cardboard box. We may not have had a bumper harvest this year but if gardening has taught me one thing it is to make the best out of any situation. For example, even if the tomatoes don’t ripen we can have a fried green tomato feast!
