When thinking about what I wanted to write on my last blog I had the idea of curating a photo journal of the process of making a yarrow balm. It would include photos of myself in a long dress foraging from a sunlit meadow and a series of photos documenting the process start to finish. All beautifully composed and screaming cottage core, meets green witch, meets hobbit vibes. While that would have been lovely it’s not real life, at least not for me. Instead, I collected plants in my yellow Crocks and an oversize sweatshirt with lord knows what staining the front of it. I prepared the yarrow with the help of two little girls, which resulted in more plant matter on the floor than in the mason jar. The honest truth is this, as much as I would love to have a beautifully curated blog I’m never going to be that person. I want readers to be able to connect and see that whatever I’m doing they can do too. We do not need perfection in order to try new things. We don’t even need perfection in order to be good at things. We just need to do them. So next time you think you need a wicker basket and peasant dress in order to forage or bake bread just think of me fighting the good fight in my yellow crocks, my children covered in dirt, and my house a disaster zone.
