5 practices to conquer self doubt.

1.Do not shy away from your own greatness.

How do you think successful people get where they are? Hard work, patience, back ally deals? Some of these things may be true but regardless of how they got there they all have one thing in common. Successful people rise above doubting their own greatness. Look yourself in the mirror and say “I am capable of great things.” Belief is a powerful thing. See yourself where you want to be and convince yourself you will get there.

2.Do not be afraid to draw attention to your thoughts and ideas.

Do not worry an idea you want to share is to gimmicky or silly because when you see someone else take that idea and turn it into something beautiful you will regret not doing it yourself. This idea is expanded beautifully by Elizabeth Gilbert in her book Big Magic read it you will not regret it.

3.See yourself how someone who loves you sees you.

Whenever I start to doubt myself or feel like I’m not good enough I think of what my mother would say. Chances are your mother thinks you are the bee knees,  and if not your mother maybe someone else in your life. A close friend, a spouse, a lover. They all see us in our best light and they are the ones most likely to support us at our lowest lows. See yourself through their eyes.

4. Go for a hike.

Or any other exercise you enjoy.  Physical activity helps to clear the mind.  Many of the effects of exercise are immediate and tangible. Revel in the sense of accomplishment you feel after a run, hike, or yoga sesh. Take that drive and put it into your ideas and creations.

5. Talk to a friend.

Your friends, the ones who love you will support all your endeavors and celebrate your ideas and creations. If you have that devil of self doubt sitting on your shoulder screaming into your ear “You can’t”, do something counter that little shit. Our true friends will always support our ideas and give us  positive feedback. It’s true we may not always agree but friends should always raise you up. Next time you have an idea or desire you think is stupid go talk to a friend, someone in your circle, someone who understands you. I had been thinking about starting a blog for a long time. I spent my time being inspired by other amazing writers and photographers and thought I could never do anything like that. I was not good enough and no one would care about what I had to say. I sheepishly brought it up to a close friend one day and she was so excited about the idea! She gave me the push I needed to believe in myself and start this super fun project.
